Safety pins in excavators with quick hitches
10/11/2016 21:12

Can anyone shed some light on while a machine is parked up with a bucket attached, if it is an unsafe act if the safety pin isn't in place? My understanding is that before operating, the operator needs to check the bucket is secured anyway.

Hi Regal, a safety pin is to be fitted and used when in normal operation. As indicated on the Worksafe website for Usung Quick Hitches (fact sheet) an operator is responsible to ensure the safety pin is fitted and correct for the machine. when a machine is shut down secured and the bucket attached to the machine is attached it is not unsafe to have the bucket lowered to the ground to provide cover or securing an item on a site. The operator must check this before operation as is standard practice. Hope this helps,
